The 2014 Great Lakes Area Rally is now history and our exhausted fearless leader, Dick Montgomery, can now take a breather from all the responsibilities heaped upon his shoulders. Awesome job Dick!!
Bob Webber and Anne Bearse were kind enough to take some great photos and provide me with information as Marcia and I weren’t able to be there. Wednesday night was the Opening Ceremony with the chapter flags represented. The weather decided to have a say in the early evening attendance as a torrential rainfall slowed many from getting to the opening ceremonies. But, then it let up & most members made it to the event somewhat dry. We heard compliments along the way about our Northern Lights flag as we carried it. The entertainment was awesome! Rollin', Rollin' was Wednesday night entertainment with 3 guys singing & playing 30 instruments. The photo was one of the guys in drag as Tina Turner performing Rollin' Down the River. Very funny!
Thursday we were all very busy monitoring &/or attending seminars &, of course, hitting the vendor buildings to spend our 'Volunteer Bucks'. The potluck dinner was lots of fun as we surprised Bob Webber with 80th birthday wishes. We had 3 new couples join us for dinner & are hopeful that they liked us as much as we liked them and will join our chapter soon. The evening was free time with many of us going to the Card Bingo game.
Friday morning we all woke up to the sad news of Rod & Maggie's loss. The day was more seminars, vendors, new coaches, & lots of conversations with new acquaintances. The ice cream social was a big success on a very warm day.
Saturday was a day of 'no cooking' as a pancake breakfast was served, then lunch was compliments of Fleetwood for everyone, & we were served a very nice Volunteer Dinner in the evening. No cookin' & a beautiful sunny day spent with friends! You can't beat that kind of day!
We all departed on Sunday, tired but happy about the great friends we were able to spend time with and are looking forward to Turkeyville in July. Thanks to all in our group who worked so hard to make this rally a success!
