Renaissance Festival Rally 2023
What a beautiful Groveland Oaks Campground we had for our August rally near Holly although Mother Nature had a few surprises for us!!
Attending the rally were Ken and Alice Hamlin, Mike and Leslie Ostyn, Ron Mercer/Pat Korloch, John and Angel Reich, Ed and Anne Bearse, Paul and Maryagnes Van Klaveren, Mike and Kay Cichon, Leslie Driesenga, Bill and Sue Hodder, George and Vicki Daubresse and Tom and Marcia Bird.
Rally masters Hamlins and Birds and a few others (Bearses, Hodders & Ostyns) arrived a day early and we were entertained that night from 1AM to 4AM with natures best wind, rain and lightning show making for a short night! The first day of the rally turned warm as members arrived and we set up tents for our 4PM social hour only to have to remove them three hours later at the ranger request due to pending storms. It was a hum dinger overnight with damages across southern Michigan but thankfully, none of our group had damage.
Friday morning found us munching on the donuts, muffins, juice and coffee before heading out to see the sights around Holly. Some of us shopped a little, visited the Great Lakes National Cemetery, had lunch and found the ice cream shop in Battle Alley! At 1PM, we met at the Detroit Model Railroad Club downtown for a private tour of their model railroad layout with 6000 feet of track on three levels. We were very impressed and highly recommend a visit on one of their Open House dates! Back to the campground at 4 for Social Hour and then a delicious dinner at the River Rock Bar and Grill a half mile away. Excellent food and service! We’ll need to return!
Saturday morning after more carbs and coffee, it was off to the Renaissance Festival two miles away. If you’ve never been, it is an experience! Lots of costumes as you’ll see in the pictures and folks having a great time. That night was dinner on our own nursing our legs from all the walking.
Sunday morning turned out sunny and beautiful! We said our goodbyes and put our coaches in the wind until September in Petoskey for the Harbor Springs Festival.
