Holland Rally 2021
Our August Rally at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds in Holland was great! We had 13 coaches this event with members and guests : Bearses, Birds, Chubbs, Cichons, Daubresses, Griswold, Hamlins, Morris, Oswalts, Paynes, Rathgebs, Stanos, Wylies, and Zoutendams attending. It was so good to see all the new faces as well as our "seasoned" members.
We arrived on Tuesday the 17th to Happy Hour and a light dinner arranged by our rally master, Paul Zoutendam. The weather was warm and sunny all week and enabled us to be out visiting the area. Wednesday morning after coffee hour, we were free to roam the super Farmers Market downtown as well as shopping, visiting the Holland State Park beach and visiting Saugatuck. Some toured the Veldheer Tulip Farm, Wooden Shoe factory and the Holland Bowl Mill to watch them carved out of huge chunks of wood. Then after Happy Hour, we were off to the Holland Princess Dinner Cruise down Lake Macatawa and out into Lake Michigan. The chicken dinner and trimmings were excellent and the views of all the expensive housing along the lake were something to behold! Photos will follow shortly!
Thursday after coffee hour, we were free to enjoy the Windmill Island Gardens and tour America’s only authentic working Dutch windmill, the bold sounds of the Amsterdam street organ and of course, the craft store. Then it was back to the campground for happy hour before going to the Red Rock Grille at Macatawa Golf Club for a super buffet dinner. They served up beef, chicken and salmon with all the sides in their elegant dining room overlooking the golf course. Paul Zoutendam and his wife Aneita are from Holland and made all the arrangements for this rally. Aneita was ill that week and we thank her for allowing Paul to still attend to both her and our rally. Get well soon Aneita!
Friday was our last coffee hour and some stayed an extra night to enjoy the postponed Holland 4th of July Fireworks display over the lake. The rest of us departed and are looking forward to our last rally and business meeting of the year in Elkhart, Indiana on September 27th. Thank you Paul for an outstanding first time rally and all the others that pitched in to make it successful!
