Holland Rally 2015
Wow-what a great time we had in Holland this year! The shared Rally Masters of Montgomery-Rathgeb-Daubresse became Chubb-Rathgeb-Daubresse due to Kathy Montgomery’s terrible tumble down the basement stairs, which kept them both at home this rally. Those attending were: Hines, Daubresses, Chubbs, Wollers, Birds, Bates, Rathgebs, Josephs, Bearses, Ikens, Johnsons, Hamlins, Vanderburgs, Ostyns, Wiermans and Millers.
Guests of Montgomery’s, Jim and Jenny Koenig, joined us from the Blue Water RVers of FMCA and we hope they enjoyed our rally. Dick and Nona Wylie joined us also on a day visit and it was good to see them!
After our arrival at Oak Grove Campground (which is only minutes from Lake Michigan), we enjoyed a Happy Hour in the campground’s enclosed dining hall among the tall oak trees. This was followed by a delicious ham and pork loin dinner prepared for us by the Chubbs and Daubresses. Rod Chubb may have started a new creative tradition with his free 50-50 tickets for each person and then a drawing was held for the four “winners” each day that got to Do Dishes after dinner! Even our guest Jenny Koineg got treated to this superb “prize” and we thank her for her support! Many others provided help to make the work go faster. Thank you!
Wednesday morning was started with Maggie’s fresh bread, fruit, juice and coffee. Most headed for the famous Farmers Market in downtown Holland and the unique shops. Ken and Alice Hamilin and Marcia and I found the two for the price of one ice cream cones offered at Kilwins! It was breezy and warm and the rain held off while we enjoyed our slow cooked dinner of Pork Ribs and Chicken prepared by George and Vicky Daubresse with Rod and Maggie’s able assistance. Super dinner!
Thursday morning began with our coffee hour by Sam and Karen Joseph and Jerry and Sue Woller. We then headed for downtown with a tour and free samples at OUR Brewery. Owners Trevor Doublestein and Dane Sexton were introduced by Jack Bates and they gave us an in-depth look at the brewing process with server Madeleine Cantor treating us to liquids and a great catered deli luncheon plate. So nice of them to open early for our group and provide the food! After more touring of the downtown shops and the viewing the surging waters of Lake Michigan at the pier, we settled down for, you guessed it, another social hour of “lemonade” and dinner! Jeff and Marcy Rathgeb spent all afternoon grilling Prime Rib and boiling potatoes for our dinner with Daubresses and Chubbs again helping in the kitchen and Maggie following up with her great cookies! Thanks Jeff and Marcy! That was delicious! We had a guest visit from Heather Knight representing Newtree Chocolates, who told us a little about her chocolate business and passed out samples for us all to take home. Yes! Thank you Heather!!
Jerry and Sue Woller and Sam and Karen Joseph did the chores in the mornings with coffee and cleanups. Thank you guys!
Friday morning, we all said our goodbyes during breakfast and we headed home five pounds heavier. This was truly a great rally with all hands sharing the workload! Thanks especially going to the Chubb’s, Daubresse’s and Rathgeb’s for their special efforts cooking and serving all of the food!
Hope to see you all in Holly in September!
