2017 Northern Lights June Rally
Hello from the neat town of Oscoda, MI where we just completed our June rally at the Oscoda KOA! It was hosted by Sherry & Tom Dorrance, Simone & John Verellen and Kathy O’Bee and included our Northern Lights 25th Charter anniversary celebration.
The rally was well attended with 27 coaches and family members: Hollister, Bates, Sroka, Rypma, Guisinger, Dorrance, Kunze, Bird, Krauss, Verellen, Daubresse, Dingman, Kloha, Vanderburg, Stano, Woller, Conrad, Chubb, Sheren, Bearse, Kelly, Curtis, Payne, Miller, O’Bee, Curtis, Bourgeois, Naylor and retired members Bill and Jean Kirschke.
The rally started out by having dinner at Wiltse’s Brew Pub where many enjoyed their special Root Beer BBQ Ribs. After dinner everyone enjoyed a magic show put on Jeffery Claus with many members assisting Jeffrey.
Friday started with the homemade buttermilk pancake contest between Jack Bates and Ed Bearse. The only winners of the contest were all who ate the pancakes and sausage since no one brought the Golden Spatula! We’ll need to have a repeat performance next year! Then we all boarded the AuSable River Queen Paddle Boat and enjoyed a two hour cruise up the river with a special singer/guitar player on board to entertain us. A delicious ham and turkey sandwich lunch was served by our rally hosts. Our group photo was taken for the FMCA magazine and we all had the special rally blue shirts designed and ordered by Anne Bearse.
That evening was our pot luck dinner where Tom Dorrance made his famous pulled pork sandwiches to go with all the delicious donations. Before the potluck started, Jim and Barb Miller presented us with a new American Flag that they purchased and donated to Northern Lights so that we could recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Also the 25th year certificate from FMCA was presented to Shirley & Bob Dingman by Les Naylor, Great Lakes Area president. A beautiful cake with the words Northern Lights 25th anniversary on it was served along with the ice cream from Maggie Chubbs “fine” fund. Then we got together to play card bingo to win Northern Lights bucks with which to bid on and acquire some great prizes. Wow, what a busy and fun day!
Saturday morning after coffee and donuts, everyone explored the many activities in the area including the Art Festival and Wurtsmith AFB. Dinner was on our own while dodging the many rain squalls in the area.
Sunday morning was time for our final donuts, coffee, yogurt and banana nut bread and said our goodbyes until our next rally in July at the Harvest Cove RV Resort in Coldwater, MI.
We are pleased to have had three new members at this rally! They are Dick and Helen Guisinger, Mike and Julie Krauss, Ron and Nancy Bourgeois and soon to be members, Doug and Diana Curtis! Welcome aboard!!
Even through it rained frequently, we had a great rally and we thank our hosts for all their hard work!
