ELKHART RALLY

Elkhart Rally 2021
Our last rally of the year was in Elkhart, Indiana September 27th, 28th and 29th. What a great time we had with perfect weather! Those attending were Bearse, Berent, Bird, Chubb, Dingman, Driesenga, Garcia, Hamlin, Martin, Mercer/Korloch, Miller, Morris, Oswalt, Payne, Sroka, Price and Zoutendam.
Our rally masters Hamlins, Oswalts and Birds greeted our group at Happy Hour on Monday spelling out the activities for the week and then trundled inside for a light supper consisting of barbeque grilled hot dogs, potato salad and baked beans. Maggie followed up with a delicious homemade ice cream dish for everyone with the “fine” money for the year!
Tuesday morning following coffee, yogurt, juice and Amish pastries from the Rise’N Roll Bakery, we visited some of the attractions in the area and met at 1PM at the Blue Gate Dinner Theater in Shipshewana for an Amish production of “Stolen”. Beautiful play with drama, comedy and excellent acting! When it was over, we went downstairs for a delicious family style dinner with all the trimmings including desert. We finally waddled out of there like bears looking for a place to hibernate.
Wednesday, it was rise and shine to Kens, Greg’s and Tom’s famous pancakes and barbeque grilled sausages. Did I mention that we really like to eat a lot?? This was followed with our annual election of officers and business meetings. I’ll post the changes on our web site. Our secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved and we approved raising the Rally Fee per coach from $20 to $25 . Members seem to like the light meal the first night when they arrive instead of a potluck so this will help defray some of the cost. Our Charity committee Alice Hamlin chose this years annual gift going to the Church Community Services for their work in feeding those less fortunate and we raised a total of $440 which was sent to them directly.
President Ed announced the 2022 Rallies and they will be at GLAMA in Goshen in June, Escanaba in July, Little River in Manistee in August and Frankenmuth in September. We have some volunteers already but would like a few more if you’d like to share in the fun of planning and working the rally. Watch the web site for times, dates and plans and mark your calendar! Thank you for all who shared their time and efforts at all the rallies this year – couldn’t be done without you!
Thursday morning, it was time to clean up the coffee, donuts, etc. and saying our goodbyes until June of 2022. A special thanks to our coffee crew Rick Payne and Ed Sroka who got up early each morning to help us get our eyes wide open! Good job guys! Thanks! Also, a big hug goes out to our first time rallymasters this year, Mike and Doris Price, Paul and Anieta Zoutendam, and Greg and Marian Oswalt. Thanks so much for stepping up and making our job easier!!
