Wow! Great weekend at Turkeyville with great friends, food and weather! Bob and Liz Webber and Tom and Sharon Dorrance did a super job of planning and provided tons of opportunity for fun and fellowship.
On Thursday, the rally started with a happy hour in the large open area behind the Webbers motorhome with Jack Bates sharing some of his home made wine for people to try. At 6PM, we moved over to the Turkeyville RV Resort pavilion for a delicious potluck supper and a short business meeting. Jane Roush, our National Vice President for the Great Lakes area brought us up to date on the FMCA activities, and new members were introduced.
Our new members are Tom and Janette Lepping, David and Mia Lanyon and Mike and Marti Kelly! Welcome to Northern Lights! Two of the couples have already volunteered to host a rally in 2015 and we’ll be happy to assist them in any way.
“Old” members present were Jack and Betty Bates, Tom and Marcia Bird, Ron and Mary Ellen Brown, Rod and Maggie Chubb, Bob and Shirley Dingman, Tom and Sharon Dorrance, Doug and Judy Johnson, Dick and Anne Joyner, Al Kloha and Carol Park and their guests Brian, Shelly and Sydney Cluff, Dick and Kathy Montgomery and guest Pat Schuster, Dick and Eleanor Payne, Don and Jeanne Rypma, Bob and Liz Webber, Bruce and Dorothy Wierman, and Dick and Nona Wylie. Don Kirkpatrick had mechanical problems and then hit a deer on the way and Rod’s guests, the Martins had to cancel due to an electrical fire in their microwave the day before the rally. We hope they’ll have better luck and be able to join us for the next rally! Later Thursday evening, some of us gathered around Dick and Kathy’s campfire with Maggie Chubb providing freshly popped popcorn!
Friday morning, a Continental Breakfast of coffee, freshly baked donuts, cinnamon sticky buns, pastries and applesauce were provided by Turkeyville and served in their restaurant. With a sugar high, we were off to the races! At noon, we gathered for their famous Turkey dinner with all the trimmings followed by a performance of “SUDS” the musical comedy. With all that great food and entertainment, we were ready for our naps and many took advantage of that! Another happy hour and we were on our own for dinner although most including us were Not hungry and just shared snacks around Dick’s campfire again.
Saturday’s activities included the continental breakfast again, the on-premises Flea Market, the Southern Exposure Herb Farm, the Gilmore Car Museum, Marshall’s Main Street Blues Festival, and Jackson’s Hot Air Jubilee Balloon Festival. Eighteen of us dined for at the famous Schuler’s restaurant in Marshal and some went to Finley’s in Jackson. Whew! Enough various activities for everyone’s tastes and appetites!
Sunday morning, we said “goodbyes” to everyone and look forward the “Rally at the Soo” in August. Hope to see you all there! Thank you Webbers and Dorrances for a super rally!
