PETOSKEY RALLY 2016
Petoskey Rally 2016
Our last rally of 2016 was at the Petoskey KOA where our group with 26 coaches got together for fun and fellowship! The park was great and the facilities for this rally were fabulous. Those attending were Kathy O’Bee, Steve and Marcy Aller, Jack and Betty Bates, Rod and Maggie Chubb, Jerry and Diana Conrad, Tom and Sherrie Dorrance, Fred Hollister, Doug and Judie Johnson, Mike and Marti Kelly, Lynn and Sandy Sheren, George and Margaret Punches, Jerry and Sue Woller, Jim and Barb Miller, John and Simone Verellen, Ken and Alice Hamlin, Don and Jeanne Rypma, Al Kloha and Carol Park, Dick and Nona Wylie, Rick and Eleanor Payne, Bruce and Dorothy Wierman, Randy and Karen Stano, Tom and Marcia Bird, Ed and Anne Bearse, Bill and Debbie Reger, Scott and Meg Wheeldon and Bob and Shirley Dingman. New members this month are the Sherens, Regers, and Wheeldons and renewed members, the Punches Welcome aboard!
Thursday started out with a cool but dry Happy Hour (the weather, that is) and this gave everyone a chance to say HI and catch up on recent activities. Next was the pizza party from world famous Spicy Bob’s! (Well, Petoskey famous anyway!) The group must have worked up an appetite driving up to Petoskey as they went through 19 large pizzas very quickly! Next was Maggie Chubb’s annual ice cream social paid for by the club members fines who forgot to wear their Northern Light Badges during this years rallies. Then we all enjoyed the movie “The Legend of Bagger Vance”. After stuffing ourselves good with pizza, ice cream and popcorn at the movie, we waddled back to our coaches for the night.
Friday, the day started with coffee and donuts and a lot of great conversation. Next was the annual business meeting and election of officers. Elected officers for 2017 are President, Ed Bearse, Vice President, George Daubresse, Secretary, Steve Aller, Treasurer, Marcia Bird, , National Director, Bob Dingman, Alternate Director, Ken Hamlin, Chaplain, Kathy O’Bee, Sargeant-at-Arms, Maggie Chubb and VP Communications, Tom Bird. After the meeting, a lunch was prepared by the Rally Masters Marcia & Tom Bird, Kathy O’Bee and Anne & Ed Bearse with a lot of help from everyone in the club. The rest of the afternoon was open to explore and shop the beautiful Little Traverse Bay area until happy hour. Our fabulous pot luck dinner followed and everyone enjoyed a new Trivia game of the past. This was trivia from this year’s past rallies and the 50’s. Everyone had chances to win Northern Lights Bucks with the right answers to trade them for one of sixteen wrapped gifts. There were a lot of right answers, wrong answers, laughs and fun!
Saturday, once again we met for coffee and donuts with our KOA manager, Ryan Crots, baking up some fresh mini-donuts on the patio. Thank you Ryan! The rest of the day was left open. Many members went to the Taste of Harbor Springs in the park on the water. The food was unbelievable - everything from clams to lamb chops to fantastic deserts. It would take pages to cover all the great food and wines. Jack Bates and Ed Bearse had an eating contest and once again Jack won. Jack’s trophy will be presented at the next rally in 2017. You don’t want to miss this! Some of the members took the Pointer Boat ride around the harbor learning about the history of the area and seeing the great homes of the ultra rich. At happy hour, most everyone DID NOT wear their badges so Maggie Chubb could start out the ice cream fund for next year with a jump start! She knows what you all like!!
Sunday we met for coffee and donuts – yes, more donuts!, gave many hugs and said our goodbye’s until next year.
We want to give special thanks to everyone for helping in set ups and cleanups. Many thanks also go to new members Meg & Scott Wheeldon for taking home forty pounds of books from our archives to scan them onto disc so we will have access to them forever.
We have a great year of rallies planned for 2017 so stay tuned for more Fun, Friendship, Fellowship and Family. “It was a wonderful time hosting the Northern Lights Michigan Chapter of FMCA this past weekend. They’re a group of RV’ers that not only know how to have a good time but some of the nicest people you could ever want to meet. They love adventure, traveling the open road and have so many stories of amazing places they’ve been, that only makes me realize I’ve got a lot more exploring to do. Thank you, Northern Lights for staying with us and sharing your incredible enthusiasm for life!” Ryan Crots, Petoskey KOA
