DUTCH TREAT CAMPGROUND
Zeeland, Michigan
September 8-11, 2024
We had beautiful weather for our rally in Zeeland. Members present were: Ed & Anne Bearse, Tom & Marcia Bird, Mike & Marcia Black, Leslie Driesenga, Bob & Bev Garcia, Ken & Alice Hamlin, Duane & Sheryl Maxwell, Ron Mercer & Pat Korloch, Jim & Sharon Morris, Mike & Leslie Ostyn, John & Angel Reich, Paul Zoutendam, and GLAMA President Kevin & Denise Watters.
We started on Sunday night with a Welcome Dinner of ham and fixings sponsored by Sky Med. After dinner Russell Perry gave a presentation on Sky Med. The Maxwells won a trip, but they were not sure where they were going, as they were given several choices.
Monday morning after coffee and donuts, we headed out to the Felt Estate. Dorr Felt became a millionaire by inventing the Comptometer. It was the first adding machine that could do all four math functions. Our guided tour took us through the house he built for his wife, who sadly died 6 weeks after they moved in. It became a Seminary and prep school for young men, and when that closed, the State of Michigan took over. It became a prison, and a State Police Post. It is now used for tours and weddings.
After Happy Hour we all went to have dinner at The Farmhouse Restaurant in Zeeland.
On Tuesday, after coffee, donuts, fruit and yogurt, we had our Annual Business Meeting. At that meeting we passed an amendment to allow the owners of trailers and fifth-wheels to join our club.
In the afternoon we were free to explore the area. Some went to the Allegan County Fair, and others went into Holland and found the Oz Sculpture Garden downtown, and others saw the wooden shoe factory. Dinner was on your own, but we met back at the building for ice cream (paid for from nametag fines) and cake. (It was Bob Garcia’s birthday, so he brought cake for all.) We were supposed to have Music Bingo, but the man putting it on had a family emergency. We ended up socializing instead. (Never a problem for us.)
Wednesday morning, we said our goodbyes at Coffee and Donuts. Thank you so much for being our wagon masters Leslie Driesenga, and Mike & Leslie Ostyn!
