The Lake Huron Rally was held at the Lake Huron Campground just north of Port Sanilac, Michigan in the Michigan thumb area.
Those members attending were John and Heather Baker, Jack and Betty Bates, Ed and Anne Bearse, Tom and Marcia Bird, Rod and Maggie Chubb, George and Vicki Daubresse, Bob and Shirley Dingman, Dennis, Juliana and Trent Garner, Ken and Alice Hamlin, Al and Carol Kloha/Park, George and Rosa Krec, James and Pat Milroth, Michael and Leslie Ostyn, Jeff and Marcy Rathgeb, Don and Jeanne Rypma, Lynn and Sandy Sheren, John and Simone Verellen, Scott and Megg Wheeldon, and Bruce and Dorothy Wierman and sister Arlene. Guests were Mike and Kay Cichon and Leroy and Nancy Taglauer and returning president Dick and Kathy Montgomery. Due to illness and other factors, Kathy O’Bee, Ed and Sherry Sroka, Jerry and Diana Conrad, Fred Hollister, Mike and Doris Price and Jim and Barb Miller all had to cancel just prior to the rally and we hope they all are on the mend.
The Port Sanilac area is a sparkling clean small town on the banks of Lake Huron with a beautiful harbor for the boat enthusiasts. Our campground with over 400 sites was spacious and busy with a full house for the weekend! Our first Happy Hour on Thursday was hampered a bit by the cold and rain in the pavilion but was overcome by the warmth and friendship of our members. Following that, our rally masters provided a light supper for our weary travelers consisting of sloppy joes, chips, potato salad, veggies, fruit and cookies.
Friday morning turned out sunny and bright for our morning coffee and doughnuts. Following this, we headed for the Sanilac County Historic Village and Museum and were greeted by four docents who led us through the many buildings and gave us some great insights on the life back in the 1800’s. Some of us climbed the 52 steps to the top of the Sanilac Lighthouse working up an appetite as we then traveled just down the block to the Stone Lodge for an early dinner. They handled our group of 48 with excellent service and the food was outstanding! That evening, Dick and Kathy Montgomery hosted a campfire for us to relax around and share stories.
Saturday was our relaxing day (whew!) and after coffee in the morning, we headed to the Antique Boat and RV show on the waterfront. Many older RV’s on display inviting us to come in and see. Also, about twenty wood boats in the water brought back many memories. A modern car show was also there with music to entertain us with. That afternoon was unscheduled and members headed out to Lexington, Caseville and Grindstone City exploring. Dinner was on our own with Happy Hour supplying dinner for most of us and Dick and Kathy had another fireside chat to boot.
Sunday morning was sunny again and warming up quickly so after breakfast, we headed for the hills until our next rally at Duck Creek in September. A good time was had by all and we’re sorry some had to miss it as it was a beautiful location and weather with good food, activities and friends! Life is Good!
