Monroe Rally, August 2013
Today, Thursday August 8th, we welcomed eight coaches to our rally here at Harbortown RV Resort in Monroe which was hosted by George and Vicki Daubresse and Rod and Maggie Chubb. Our traditional Happy Hour at 4PM was well attended by our hosts as well as Dick and Kathy Montomery, John and Simone Verellen, Tom, Marcia and Jessica Bird, Ron and Mary Ellen Brown and their grand children, Lillie and Gabe, Jack and Betty Bates, Fred Hollister and Bob and Liz Webber. Also, Norm and Linda Fulton, friends of George and Vicki joined in the activities. The skies threatened rain but all was well with Jack Bates sharing a sample of his home made elderberry liqueur! Great stuff Jack! Thanks!
Following this, we proceeded to our potluck dinner in the air conditioned clubhouse enjoying the tasty pork loin furnished by George and Vicki's delicious german potato salad as well as the abundance of food furnished by all! Great first day guys and gals!
Friday morning, the Chubbs and Daubresse's were up at the crack of dawn preparing our breakfast of delicious rolls, bagels and fresh fruit! Thank you! We then headed for the Toledo Zoo for hours of gawking at all the fascinating animals while they gawked back at us! It's undergoing a $3 million dollar renovation tripling the size of their aquarium so we're making notes to return in 2 years. We then headed over to Tony Packos for their world famous hot dogs and back to camp to rest up for happy hour. Our meal that night was at the nearby Bolles Harbor Cafe where many of us dug into the fantastic perch dinners. Ken and Alice Hamlin joined us for dinner and it was great to see them.
Saturday, we headed for the donuts and coffee first thing and then headed in various directions. Many went to downtown Monroe for their Jazz Festival on the river along with all the craft tents set up and some skampered over to Cabella's in Dundee or explored Toledo. Ron and Mary Ellen had fun with their grandchildren, Gabe and Lillie at the pool and go-cart track. I never saw Ron run so fast when they mentioned the huge ice cream bowls they had there! Great fun! We followed up the day at the mini-golf course with our fearless leader Dick taking the championship (I might add that he was the scorekeeper! Ha!). Sorry Dick, our undying admiration was your only trophy for your efforts!
Sunday, the campground put on a pancake/eggs/sausage/bagel breakfast for us and then it was goodbye again until GLAMA in September. Good food, good friends, good weather, what more can we ask for!! Thanks again to George and Vicki, Rod and Maggie for all of your efforts making this a great rally!
