The Kings and Queens request your presence at the 2015 Renaissance Festival
Rally !!!!!!!!!!
And come we did, all 20 coaches.
Our year‐end rally was at the Groveland Oaks County Park in Holly , Michigan with
the theme of the "Renaissance Festival". We were hosted by Tom & Jeanette
Lepping and David & Mia Lanyon. The park was fantastic. They welcomed us with
Oakland County backpacks and gave us a coupon book for activities around the
Oakland area worth mucho bucks... to raffle off that evening at happy hour . .
The back packs had suggestions on parks & activities to do in Holly and Oakland
areas. Everyone was commenting on how nice this county park was. We all
enjoyed the Groveland Oaks Park with full hookups, 50 amp. sites and cement
pads They even provided us with a cart to transport items for our morning
coffee, juice and goodies to Paradise Island ..... how cool is that!!
In fact it was cool ‐ like 44* at 8am. But as we all huddled up together and drank
hot liquids, all had a good time like always. Northern Lights members do not let a
little cold stop us from having a good time.
The parks coupon book was raffled off to a grateful couple. We all were
surprised that Jeanette and Tom had a raffle of goodies at our 4 pm happy hour.
What a nice surprise. Thanks Leppings. ;‐)
Friday after another cool morning coffee, all took the morning to walk around the
vast park grounds or just sit around and enjoy the sun.
In the afternoon, we had a very special tour of Cook's Farm Dairy. We never
realized how much effort it took to make ice cream. All the effort were worth it
and we appreciated it more as we all had a cone. Friday night we all were treated
to a catered dinner at the" Villager Restaurant" in Holly. The dinner was
compliments of General RV in Wixom, Michigan. General RV also donated
wonderful camping items that we raffled off to the delight of the recipients. Thank you General RV !!
Saturday started with a cool morning coffee, but by now everyone came dressed
for the weather. Most of the day was spent at the "Renaissance Festival "which was only 2 miles down the road from the park. It was interesting to see how cast members and
the general public were dressed‐ up in their various and sundry costumes. Some
were pirates and others were princesses. Some of the families that come each
year had everyone in costumes, including the babies. With all of the costumes
and the buildings, that were set up like a city, you tended to slip back in time.
Aaaaaaaaaah, the days of Kings , Queens, Knights jousting for the princesses
hands, and the lowly serfs. Ye OLDE Times.....
There were several venues for the day besides the Festival: Dixieland Flea Market,
Oakland Farmers Market , The Detroit Model Railroad Club showroom, Diehl
Cider Mill and Orchard tours, and the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the city of
Holly. Some of our members decided to go into Holly and took part in the Holly's
150th celebration. They had parades, bands, beer tents, dancing and lots of food
and other fun activities. At dusk the city had a fireworks display. What
Funnnnn!!!!!!
Sunday was a sunnier day, so the coffee hour was a lot warmer .... 51*.
Our yearly business meeting was held on Paradise Island after coffee hour.
At the meeting we donated a check to "SCAMP" , so that disabled children can have a camp experience. As we all know, camping is something all children and adults
remember their whole lives.
Soon It was time to say farewell and blessings for journeys not yet completed for
another winter season.
Some of our members are off to the southern states to get out of the snow. And
the rest of us are loving Mother Nature's kind reminder to take it slow and easy.
Thank you for a fabulous time in Michigan once again. Here come the COLORS!!!
