Northern Lights August Rally
Little River Casino RV Park
Manistee, Michigan
The rally started out with our Happy Hour where our Rally Masters, Sharon and Jim Morris, greeted the members and gave the itinerary for the activities for the week.
We had 20 coaches at this rally, and this included two new couples, Lydia and Jim Marin and Suzanne and Dennis Dudley. Additional guests attending were Artie and Frank Roan from the Florida Treasure Coasters chapter of FMCA.
Other members attending were Aneita and Paul Zoutendam, Leslie Driesenga and guest Debbie, Pat Korloch/Ron Mercer, Sharon and Jim Morris, Sue and Bill Hodder, Eleanor and Rick Payne, Barb and Jim Miller, Barbara and Scott Builta and their 2 and 1/2 year old Ella, Sandy and Frank Griswold, Kay and Mike Cichon, Maggie and Rod Chubb, Karen and Randy Stano, Marcia and Tom Bird, Anne and Ed Bearse, Alice and Ken Hamlin, and Leslie and Mike Ostyn.
The introductions were followed by a pizza party from AJ's Pizzeria. Fantastic pizzas of all kinds including Cheese Burger, Philly Steak and Taco. We stuffed ourselves silly and everyone was happy!
The next day started off with coffee, orange juice, donuts, yogurt and muffins. A special thanks go out to Rick Payne for getting up early to make sure the above were ready to consume at 8AM. Thanks Rick!
The adventure for the day was a trip on the boat, The Princess of Manistee, which took us out from the Manistee River through the harbor and into Lake Michigan and along the coast. Captain Travis and Captain Missy gave a narration of interests along the cruise. The day was so beautiful, the lake calm and everyone had a great time. Our happy hour followed with lots of conversation about the events of the day.
The next morning started out with the coffee hour and information regarding the Manistee Trolley. For $3, we were able to take a forty-five-minute tour around Manistee and learned many historical facts about the city. For example, besides being a major lumbering in the area in the 1800’s, much of the sand was removed from the beach in 1920-1930's to make glass for Ford Motor Company among others. The tour included drive-bys of the many lumber barons’ beautiful mansions and north to Orchard Beach State Park for a look at the giant Sequoia trees.
That night, we had our group dinner at the Bungalow Restaurant which included a choice of Michigan Lake Perch, New York Strip steak or Smothered Chicken. Great food and great service resulted in our waddling out to our cars!!
The last day, we all met for coffee, donuts, and said our goodbyes until the next rally in Frankenmuth. A special thanks go out to Sharon and Jim Morris and Rick Payne for putting on a great rally for us!
