GLAMARAMA
Darke County Fairgrounds, Greenville, Ohio June 5-9 We had 5 Northern Lights coaches + 1 friend (future member?) coach in attendance. Leslie Ostyn and Bev Garcia volunteered at registration, Bob Garcia and Mike Ostyn were in charge of the carts, Marcia and Tom Bird volunteered in seminars, and Teri Cline volunteered driving carts. Tom and Marcia manned our booth in the Chapter Fair and met some possible future members. Seventy-seven people went on a trip to the Armstrong Air & Space Museum in Wapakoneta. We had movie night (The Long, Long Trailer) with popcorn, Card Bingo, Sarah Getto sang (she’s matured and was terrific!), and Gary David Reece for our entertainment at night. In the day we had a Golf Outing, games (ladder golf and beanbag baseball), and Walk-A-Mile for Charity. There were seminars on various topics and several crafts. The ice cream social was held in the Vendor Building and we even had cake! It was great for us and for the Vendors too. The Reception for Vendors, Volunteers, and Chapter Officers was filled with vegetables, cheese, fruit, and even had pizza. Thank you to Les Naylor and his volunteers for the food prep. Coffee and Donuts were available for those who were up in time. We even had a pancake breakfast on Saturday. Our Anytime Lunch consisted of tickets worth $10 each to use any time at the food trucks. They also took vendor bucks. We had a good variety of food to choose from and a unique ice cream truck for dessert. The Ohio’s Place in Space Ladies’ Lunch required a ticket, but was delicious, with a speaker after we ate. Then on to door prizes for many. When other chapters had pot lucks at the fairgrounds, with so few of us, we chose to eat out at J.T.’s Brew & Grill in town. Our Annual Meeting was on Saturday, and thankfully someone stepped up to take over for Ken Lewis as President of Great Lakes Area. Thank you Kevin Watters! He’s going to need our support with this huge job. Judy Ruth timed out as our Michigan Vice-President and our very own Mike Ostyn was elected as our new Michigan V.P. Northern Lights now has two people on the Executive Board of Great Lakes. (Our National Director is automatically on the Board.) Greenville was a long drive, but we had better attendance this year – just over 200 RV’s. Since it was our 2nd year there, we had a lot of the kinks worked out, and it was a wonderful time. Next year we will be at Allegan, Michigan. They have made many improvements on the fairgrounds, and we hope to see most of you there! |
